The year is 2020 and it’s officially cool to wear thrifted clothes. You heard me right, thrifting. Is. Cool.
Long gone are those days of shame and embarrassment when your mom bought your new school clothes from the local Salvation Army.

Why Thrift?
1. Trend
Fashion has been and always will be a continuous cycle of reusing and modifying trends over the years. (If you’ve ever sought out a pair of mom jeans, then you know what I’m talking about). Scrunchies, fanny packs, ugly chunky sweaters, windbreakers, these are all some of the latest trends and even fast fashion corporations are starting to mass produce these styles. But the most authentic way to wear the latest trend is to either raid your mom’s closet, or head to the thrift store.
2. Cost
Thrift stores are HELLA cheap! I think that our generation has found that the thrift store is an amazing resource for all kinds of things we want but at a discounted price. It’s an amazing way to be boujie on a budget. From home decor to outfits, who cares if someone’s preowned it? It’s become way more impressive to score a good deal than to waste our hard earn cash. (Just ask Macklemore.)
3. Sustainability
This is a big reason to thrift. The average American throws away 80 POUNDS of clothing each year. All of that ends up sitting in the landfill. Not to mention that the purchase of brand new items (made cheap and do not last) also increases our carbon footprint. Buying used clothing reduces our negative impact on the environment.
4. Finally... earning $$$.
Yeah that’s right, not only can you buy used clothes, you can also sell them. That’s what I do. I’m what they call a part-time “reseller”. Essentially what I do is find these trending and name brand items, and I resell them to people who are searching for them online. They find the items at a markedly discounted price from retail, and I make a profit. Interested in trying it for yourself? Here’s what I recommend:
Try selling your own items out of your closet. This way you can make some extra cash without spending any. This is a great low risk way to test the waters to see if it’s for you.

Depop: this is an app with an instagram-like feel where you can find a lot of fringe and trend based clothing.
eBay: we all know of this one, eBay is still a powerhouse for both used and new items.
