Sweet Side Hustles

By: Sarah Hardy

College doesn’t always make it easy to make money. Luck for you, I’ve had the opportunity to try out a few different online ways to make money. I know you can Google things like this and get a million lists, but here are the ones I’ve tried firsthand.

  1. EPoll Surveys. This is about as easy as it gets. Sign up for free and they’ll send you surveys for points. The longer the survey, the more points they are worth. You’ll also be able to see how many points you get in the survey email to decide if you’d like to take it or not. The survey’s aren’t always super long and usually take less than 10 minutes. They have rewards to redeem as a PayPal deposit, Starbucks code, Amazon code, Walmart code etc. I’ve been using this service for a little over a year and have been able to redeem $20 in rewards three times already!

  2. Survey Junkie. I wish I could say this was as great as the reviews say it is. Similar to EPoll, you take surveys for points which you can then redeem in cash/PayPal value. The biggest difference is that each survey, when completed, gives you a few cents or a dollar. You have to reach at least $10 before you can redeem. In my experience, I would start a survey and then a few questions in be told I did not qualify or the survey responses had been filled up. This became very frustrating for me and I finally decided to give up on Survey Junkie.

  3. UserTesting. This is something completely different than surveys! If you like checking out websites and apps before they’ve been realised, this is a great way to earn some cash. However, you do need to go through an approval process to do this one. For this program, you have to video record your screen and talk through different tasks that are prompted to you. You can do certain tasks on a computer, and others are for your phone. This one is more challenging because you have to be in a quiet space to record and be able to articulate well. Then, someone has to watch your video and approve it and give it a rating out of 5 stars. Regardless, you get paid $10 via PayPal for each assignment you complete.

  4. Rep Programs! So a lot of amazing brands offer representative programs in which you can earn commissions from making sales using your rep code. I am a rep for a few different brands/companies, and they can be super rewarding! Even if you don’t make a ton of commission, you also build a strong community with other reps in the program. Other brands don’t pay you, but you have the opportunity to try new products which you get for free in return for social media coverage.

  5. Esearch. This is a website where you can enter in demographic information and you get chosen for certain product testing, which results in payment via Paypal. You still have to complete a screening survey to make sure you qualify for the product they want to test, but certain ones I have seen range from $40-$200. The recruitments do not come very frequently, but can definitely be a little boost for your financials if you qualify.

Hopefully this list gives you a few options to kick off your new school year with some cold hard (virtual) cash. It’s not always easy finding things to qualify for, but by being involved in multiple of these opportunities makes it even easier to find what works best for you and your schedule.
