Review on Self-Tanners

Everyone loves to have a perfect glow, but when it's the middle of winter and a foot of snow is outside, it's kind of difficult to get the perfect tan. Some people may be compelled to go to a tanning booth, but medical professionals highly urge against using tanning booths in order to prevent skin cancer. Instead of hitting up the tanning salon, try an at-home self-tanner to provide you with the perfect tint! With these kinds of products it's usually a hit or miss, so be sure to read reviews online before purchasing a product. If you apply the product the wrong way you could end up streaky, or worse, you could end up orange. Below are reviews of a variety of self-tanner brands and tips for how to apply your tan for maximal beauty. Don't see your favorite on the list? What Tanner Should You Use?

★Tan Luxe-$59.00★

Personally, my favorite at-home self-tanner is Tan Luxe tanning drops. This product is extremely easy to apply and can be ordered in two different shades (Light/Medium and Medium/Dark). To apply the tanner, you put a pump of lotion on your hands and about 6 drops of the product. Then, in a circular motion mix together the moisturizer and the tanning drops (This should only take a few seconds). Once the products are mixed together, you apply as if you were putting on lotion! The reason I love this product so much is that it does not have an intense self-tanner smell, applies evenly, and only takes about five to ten minutes to dry. The price is hefty, but the product will last you a while. I promise, it's worth it!

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer-$11.99

This product was the first self-tanner I tried. It can be ordered in two shades (Fair to Medium or Medium to Tan) and is available in most pharmacies, Ulta Beauty, and Amazon. The application of this product is quite easy. The product was create as a replacement for your daily moisturizer. I do not usually like my self-tanners to have a scent, but this product has a very subtle odor that I do not mind. However, after a few days of using this tanner, you will notice that your skin starts to turn slightly orange and becomes quite blotchy.

b.tan not just your weekend lover...(velvet base)-$17.99

I have only used this product about three times. The product comes with a glove to use during application, and its dark color helps you visually see where you are applying the product. This is extremely helpful for ensuring that you applied the product evenly so that you can avoid streakiness. After applying this product with the glove, allow the product to dry and then sleep with the tan on overnight. In the morning, take a shower and use an exfoliator to scrub the tanner off. Doing so will leave you with a naturally looking color. Although this product has appeared to be amazing thus far, I do have a few issues with it. Firstly, it has an extremely strong odor. In addition to a strong odor, the product takes about an hour to dry after application, and even after drying your body feels quite sticky. You must be extremely careful that the product is almost completely dry before putting on clothes or laying in your bed. If it is not completely dry it will start to stick on your clothes and bedding, and create a blotchy looking tan. I do NOT recommend wearing light colored clothes after applying this product.

Tanning Water?-$28.00

I have never personally tried tanning water, but I have seen several reviews on social media platforms raving about this new trend. The most popular brand I have seen online is Isle of Paradise self-tanning water. The product comes in three shades (Light, Medium, and Dark) and has an easy application process. Simply exfoliate, moisturize, and then mist the the product onto your skin until the skin is completely saturated. There are several videos online that teach you have to apply the mist in order to ensure an even, glowing tan. If you have tried these drops, leave a comment down below on how they worked for you!

Tips for a Perfect Application

1. Exfoliate: It is essential to exfoliate your skin prior to applying your self-tanner. Dry skin will absorb more of the tanning formula you are using, which will cause your skin to look blotchy and orange. Make sure to exfoliate your entire body, focusing particularly on your elbows, knees, and ankles.

2. Shave Prior to Applying Your Tan: Shaving after you apply your tan will result in shaving off the tan itself. Do not forget to shave prior to using a self-tanner.

3. Moisturize: Moisturize areas of your skin that are particularly dry. Be sure to focus on your elbows, knees, and ankles since those areas of the skin tend to be the thickest and most flaky.

4. Be Aware of Your Hands and Feet: Be sure to apply a coat of your self-tanner to the tops of your feet and hands. Most people forget to do so and end up having a tan that stops at their ankles or wrists.

5. Wash the Palms of Your Hands: Wash the palms of your hands after applying self-tanner to avoid having dry, blotchy dark patches.
