DIY Shorts

Updated: Aug 18, 2020

After spending three months in quarantine, my bank account is running dry. Although quarantine does not seem to be ending any time soon, at least for the state I reside in, the weather is getting hotter and summer is near. With 90 degree weather quickly approaching, my leggings, sweats, and jeans are not going to cut it. So, i decided to attempt to make my own pair of shorts using one of my old pair of jeans! Check out the before and after pictures, the steps I took to make them, and a review on the quality below!

What You Need

1. Any Pair of Jeans

2. Tweezers

3. Scissors or X-Acto Knife

4. White Chalk

Steps

1.Put on the jeans you would like to turn into shorts.

2. Mark jeans at desired length with white chalk or a light colored marker. A helpful tip you should follow is to mark the shorts a little longer (about 1 to 2 inches) than you would like. You can always decrease the length, but if you cut the shorts too much you may not be able to salvage them.

3. Once you mark your jeans, cut directly across and then put the new product back on.

4. Now you are going to see about how many more inches you want to cut off (should be about 1 to 2 inches). This time when you cut, you are going to want to cut at an angle upwards in order to make the shorts match your body.

5. Once you get the shorts to your desired length and shape, take your tweezers and start plucking the fabric to create a frayed look. You do not need to spend a ton of time doing this, because the dryer will also help fray the fabric.

6. Create rips by using scissors or an X-Acto knife to make slits. Then continue to pluck the fabric. Similar to Step 5, you do not need to over-pluck the fabric because the dryer will also help fray the shorts.

7. Last step is to throw your product in the washer and dryer to finish off your frayed shorts look!

Review

If you are balling on a budget, and have the materials, it is possible to make fashionable shorts from home. Obviously the shorts are not perfect, but for never cutting a pair of jeans I think they look pretty good. I recommend trying this DIY, I was very happy with the product!
