Staying focused on school work with all that is happening in the world is a difficult task. Some professors seem to be easing up, while others are piling up even more work. At home, there's not much to motivate us to do our best work. We are here to help! Here are 5 quick tips you can do to make sure you're still getting the work done that you need to.
1. Make a daily to-do list
Doing this everyday will help you focus on what needs to get done that day. By visualizing it, you'll be more likely to get it done sooner, and have more time to do other activities.
2. Wake up at a reasonable time
If your professors are recording classes or moving the times around, it can be tempting to stay up all night and sleep all day. Do not do it! This will make you more likely to not get your work done and just keep sleeping. Get up, eat a healthy breakfast, and start working.
3. Give yourself mini goals
With the majority of the country being stuck in quarantine, there is optimal time to get work done. Instead of trying to crank out a 5 page paper without a break, create a schedule that allows you to focus on your work, but also have fun. Spend some time writing one page, then take a good break as a reward. After 30 minutes, return back to your paper and get writing! This will keep you motivated as well as assist you in creating quality work.
4. Talk to your professors
If you are extremely stressed out and completely unable to focus, talk to your professors. Hopefully they will understand and work with you on an extension instead of completely failing an assignment.
5. Make email folders
Everybody is being swarmed with emails right now, and it is hard to sift through what information is pertinent or not. This can lead to missing important information, often causing stress later. Gmail provides students the ability to make folders to assist in organizing emails. I recommend making one folder per class. Organize all of your emails to their corresponding class folder. Check through each class folder daily in order to ensure that you have completed all of your assignments for that week.
